Latta Reintroduces Legislation To Support Sportsmen And Sportswomen

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) has reintroduced two pieces of legislation supporting sportsmen and sportswomen that will ensure their unique perspective is heard when federal policy is crafted. One bill, the Wildlife and Hunting Heritage Conservation Council Advisory Committee Act, permanently establishes a committee to advise the Secretaries of the Interior and Agriculture on wildlife and habitat conservation, recreational shooting, and hunting. The Wildlife and Hunting Heritage Conservation Council currently exists, but permanent authorization is needed to ensure the Council continues in future administrations.

The other legislation directs the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Agriculture to require annual permits and assess annual fees for commercial filming activities on Federal land for film crew of five or less people. Under the current approval system, small and minimally-funded crews are at a disadvantage compared to larger counterparts. The bill rectifies this problem by setting a $200 annual fee to obtain a permit for small crews and ensures that no other fees are imposed.

"As an avid sportsman and hunter, I'm proud to reintroduce these bills supporting the men and women who enjoy recreational activities on our federal lands," said Latta. "They should have a permanent seat at the table when it comes to advising policymakers on issues that affect conservation, hunting, shooting, and other activities. Making the Wildlife and Hunting Heritage Conservation Council permanent will ensure that the voice of America's outdoor enthusiasts will continue to be heard."

Latta is the former co-chair of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus. Both bills are supported by the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation.
