Gov. Malloy & Lt. Gov. Wyman Statements on Newest Trumpcare Proposal

Statement

Date: July 13, 2017
Location: Hartford, CT

Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman today issued the following statements in response to the release by Senate Republicans of their latest version of the Trumpcare bill:

Governor Malloy said, "The Senate Republicans continue to put American lives on the line for no other reason than following through on an ill-advised campaign pledge. For many of our most vulnerable populations, including the elderly and the sick, this bill is as cruel as it is dangerous. It is inconceivable that Senate Republicans would move even further toward jeopardizing the cost and quality of coverage for people with pre-existing conditions simply to appease some of their most radical members. Further, reducing costs by eviscerating coverage is simply not a workable solution and will not fool the American people -- it will create greater instability. I urge the Senate to recognize how deeply unpopular these proposals are and, rather than strip affordable coverage from those who need it most, work together with their colleagues to improve healthcare for all."

Lt. Governor Wyman said, "Elected officials have an obligation to protect our residents and their fundamental rights. While Connecticut and other states across the country are working to bring down costs and improve access to high-quality healthcare, the Congressional Republicans have done nothing but continually repackage the same problems -- problems that threaten the well-being of the very people they are supposed to serve. It's a mean-spirited bill, it's a waste of taxpayer time and money, and it isn't getting us anywhere as a nation."
