Delegation Statement on Nomination of Mark Klaassen to Serve as U.S. Attorney for District of Wyoming

Today, U.S. Senators Mike Enzi and John Barrasso, and U.S. Representative Liz Cheney, all R-Wyo., issued the following statements in support of Mark Klaassen's nomination to serve as the United States attorney for the District of Wyoming.

President Trump recently announced Klaassen's nomination. If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Klaassen will serve as the chief federal law enforcement officer for the state of Wyoming.

"My congratulations to the Trump Administration's choice as U.S. Attorney for the District of Wyoming, Mark Klaassen," said Enzi. "Not only do I appreciate his legal background and experience in Wyoming, but also his and his family's experience with small business. In addition, he has worked in Washington and served in a management role that should help him to serve our state. I hope the full Senate will be able to consider the nomination soon."

I congratulate him on being nominated for this critical position and look forward to his timely confirmation," said Cheney.

Klaassen is currently an assistant United States attorney for the District of Wyoming, where he has served for more than eight years. From 2007 to 2009, he was chief of staff to the general counsel for the Department of Homeland Security, and he also served as general counsel for the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security from 2003 to 2007.

Raised in Gillette, Wyoming, Klaassen began his career as an associate at Latham & Watkins LLP. He clerked for the Honorable Wade Brorby of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He received his B.S., summa cum laude, from Oral Roberts University, and his J.D., magna cum laude, from Notre Dame Law School.
