Issues: Drugs

Congressman David B. McKinley has introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives calling for more international cooperation to stop the trafficking of illicit fentanyl into America. Illicit fentanyl is a synthetic drug that is 100 times stronger than morphine and 50 times stronger than heroin

"Too many people in West Virginia and around the country are falling victim to the dangers of drugs, robbing them of their God-given potential. Substance abuse and opioid addiction have now become a national crisis. We must stay on offense in our fight against this epidemic," said McKinley.

"This resolution will help build international support to stop the flow of illicit fentanyl into our country and ultimately save thousands of American lives," McKinley said.

Background

Congressman McKinley recently joined President Trump at the White House for the newly announced Presidential Commission on Combating the Drug Epidemic and Opioid Abuse. The Commission will be led by Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey.

Congressman McKinley has been a leader in the House in the battle against drug addiction. In 2016, groundbreaking legislation on opioids was signed into law. The legislation included a series of bills which passed the Energy and Commerce Committee and several amendments offered by McKinley.
