Grothman Resolution Condemns Global Persecution of Christians

Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-Glenbeulah) today introduced a bipartisan resolution condemning the persecution of Christians around the globe.

Christians are persecuted in countries across the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Americas by religious extremists and officials at all levels of government. Each month, an average of 214 churches and Christian properties are destroyed, 772 violent acts are committed against Christians and 322 Christians are killed because of their faith.

Examples of persecution mentioned in the resolution include:

· The imprisonment of approximately 70,000 Christians in North Korea labor camps.

· The 600 Christian churches in Pakistan that were attacked in 2016.

· The 44 Coptic Christians that were killed by ISIS bomb attacks on Palm Sunday of this year.

· The decline in the Christian population of Iraq from approximately 1.4 million in 2003 to approximately 275,000 in 2016.

This resolution calls for Members of Congress to stand up for religious liberty by condemning governments and religious extremist groups that target Christians, and urges the president and heads of other governments to condemn the global persecution of Christians.
