Cortez Masto Highlights Impact of Repealing ACA for Nevadans

U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today joined Nevadans Together for Medicaid, a coalition of healthcare advocates working to protect and support Medicaid and CHIP for all children and families in Nevada, to highlight the impact that repealing the Affordable Care Act would have on Nevadans.

"The report that was unveiled today found an estimated 328,000 Nevadans who will lose their healthcare under the Senate Republicans' version of Trumpcare. It is far from what Republicans claim as "better care,' because there is not a single provision in this bill that will result in "better care' or lower costs for anyone in Nevada. It does nothing to help women, seniors and children, and threatens to end Medicaid, a program that has helped low-income Americans gain access to quality, affordable care. Instead, this bill aims to cut taxes for the richest Americans, while cutting funding for the poor.

"Nevada has seen the success of the existing law in improving access to both basic and life-saving, affordable healthcare. Our uninsured rates have dropped and we have experienced the largest decline in the rate of uninsured kids in the country. 1.2 million Nevadans with preexisting conditions no longer have to worry that an insurance company will deem them "too risky' to cover. While the law is not perfect, we can come together to fix what doesn't work. I'm ready to work across the aisle to improve the ACA, not repeal it and endanger countless lives along the way."
