Date: June 29, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly released the following statement after President Trump today nominated Indiana State Health Commissioner Dr. Jerome Adams to be U.S. Surgeon General.

Donnelly said, "I have worked closely with Dr. Adams for several years on efforts to respond to the opioid abuse and heroin use epidemics across Indiana. He has been a willing partner, and I look forward to talking with him about his priorities for the Surgeon General position."

Among Donnelly's efforts with Dr. Adams:

Last year Dr. Adams testified before the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging during a hearing about opioid use among seniors, following an invitation from Donnelly, who serves on the Committee.

Donnelly also co-hosted a roundtable in September 2015 on prescribing practices to curb opioid abuse that included Dr. Adams in addition to a range of others.
