Garrett Stands Alongside Senator Rand Paul's Healthcare Legislation

Statement

Date: Feb. 15, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Today U.S. Senator Rand Paul held a joint press conference with members of the U.S. House of Representatives to roll out healthcare legislation aimed at replacing the Affordable Care Act.

With Republicans holding both the White House and each chamber of Congress, extensive overhaul is inevitable. As the GOP continues to put together a comprehensive plan to replace the Affordable Care Act, Rep. Garrett joined the ranks of Senator Paul to start offering solutions.

Senator Paul's initial bill provided a framework that House Republicans have elaborated on, most notably with revisions by Rep. Garrett including an amendment to the McCarron-Ferguson Act of 1945 - an issue on which he penned an opinion piece just weeks ago.

Following today's press conference, 5th District Congressman Tom Garrett issued the following statement:

"Today my colleagues and I took another step towards replacing the flawed Obamacare program with an affordable, accessible, market-driven alternative. While this legislation needs more work, including stronger provisions to protect individuals with pre-existing conditions, I am very pleased with the current framework that preserves these needs. I look forward to listening to the concerns of my constituents as we move forward in this process to ensure affordable access to healthcare for our country."
