Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal released the following statement on the fire that destroyed the Islamic Center of Eastside:

"It is heartbreaking to hear news of the fire that destroyed the Islamic Center of Eastside this morning. While we don't know the exact motive behind the tragedy, acts of violence like this strike fear in many people's hearts,"

"Hate crimes against Muslim Americans have skyrocketed. Just last month, in a clear act of hate, the sign at Redmond mosque was destroyed. Now more than ever, we need to stand together with our Muslim brothers and sisters in Bellevue, to provide comfort, and help rebuild one of the oldest mosques in Washington state. I condemn these acts of violence in our community and pledge to do everything I can to work with all of our communities for inclusion and peace, " said Rep. Jayapal.
