Rep. Black Slams Politically Motivated Charges Against Planned Parenthood Whistleblowers

Statement

Date: March 29, 2017
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Abortion

Congressman Diane Black (R-TN-06), a member of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus and author of the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2017, responded to the continued witch hunt against the Center for Medical Progress's David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt. Most recently, Planned Parenthood-endorsed California Attorney General Xavier Becerra issued 15 felony charges against the whistleblowers who helped uncover Planned Parenthood's role in the harvesting of aborted babies' body parts. Black released the following statement:

"The state of California was absolutely right to issue a felony charge, but they handed it to the wrong person. By targeting the courageous truth-tellers who revealed Planned Parenthood's misdeeds while turning a blind eye to the real offenders who unapologetically participate in the trafficking of infant body parts for profit, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra has shredded any guise of objectivity and exposed his total inability to be a neutral arbiter of the law in this case. It's no surprise Mr. Becerra is doing Planned Parenthood's bidding today, he accepted their endorsement just a few short months ago. I have every confidence that justice will prevail and will vindicate the Center for Medical Progress, as was the case in Texas, but in the meantime, Attorney General Becerra should immediately recuse himself to ensure fairness for all parties involved," said Congressman Diane Black.
