Hoyer Statement on the White House's 'Made in America' Week

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the White House's 'Made in America' week:

"For President Trump to declare this to be 'Made in America' week is the epitome of hypocrisy and seeks to distract from his Administration's lack of an agenda. If the President wishes more products to carry the "Made in America' label and be manufactured by American workers, he might begin with his own Trump brands, which are outsourced to at least a dozen countries. Meanwhile, these attempts by the White House to message through weekly themes only highlights the disconnect between a candidate who ran on promises to expand opportunity to more Americans and a President whose term has so far been mired in scandal and investigation and who has broken nearly every promise to the American people.

"This country doesn't need a photo op about domestic manufacturing; it needs a government that actually takes steps to expand manufacturing and bring jobs back home. Manufacturing's share of the overall workforce fell in June to a record low of just 8.5% -- a clear sign that the Trump Administration is failing to address the challenges facing our manufacturing sector. Democrats will continue to push for the kind of Make It In America policies that grow jobs, promote innovation and entrepreneurship, raise wages, and put real economy security within reach for more of our workers and their families. I urge Republicans, who control Congress's agenda, to work with us to bring Make It In America legislation to the Floor and pass it with bipartisan support."
