Cicilline Statement on House Passage of Federal Appropriations Bill

Statement

Date: May 4, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Democratic Policy and Communications Committee Co-Chair David N. Cicilline (D-RI) issued the following statement today after the U.S. House passed an appropriations bill to fund the Federal government through September:

"This is a good compromise. Over the last few months, I was honored to help lead this successful effort to expand funding to strengthen manufacturing and retrain workers. I'm delighted that this bill also includes my requests to fund Pell grants for low-income students and increase funding for afterschool programs for kids. And I'm proud that, even though Democrats are in the minority, we preserved critical resources to support women's health care through Planned Parenthood."

"It's also important to recognize what this bill does not include -- namely, funding for a border wall or a cruel deportation task force. I hope that the Senate will move quickly to approve this funding. I look forward to working further with my colleagues to preserve these priorities in the months ahead."
