Pelosi Statement on Trump's Trojan Horse Infrastructure Plan

Statement

Date: June 5, 2017
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Infrastructure

Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the first day of President Trump's so-called "infrastructure week":

"Bold, job-creating investments in our crumbling infrastructure system can and should be a bipartisan priority. However, Trump's "infrastructure week' appears to be little more than a Trojan Horse for undermining workers' wages and handing massive tax breaks to billionaires and corporations.

"Our nation's airspace is the safest in the world, in no small part because of the exemplary work of our Air Traffic Controllers and aviation safety professionals at the FAA. Trump's ideas for privatizing Air Traffic Control -- which recycle a tired Republican plan that both sides of the aisle have rejected -- would hand control of one of our nation's most important public assets to special interests and the big airlines. Selling off our Air Traffic Control system threatens passenger safety, undermines the FAA's ongoing modernization, jeopardizes access to rural airports and adds to the deficit.

"Americans are sick and tired of Trump's repeated broken promises to fix our infrastructure system. The President has not only failed to offer any credible plan to rebuild and repair our nation's infrastructure; he has instead tried to slash transportation funding through his cruel and short-sighted budget, which eliminates TIGER grants for states and cities, guts transit and puts Amtrak on the chopping block -- all while giving a handout to corporate interests.

"House Democrats are eager to join Republicans to strengthen our infrastructure, but the White House and the Republican Congress must stop pushing plans that fail to create good-paying jobs for hard-working Americans."
