Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) today voted to fund the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) for Fiscal Year 2017. The Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2017 (H.R.1301) increases funding from Fiscal Year 2016 by over $10 billion to match the levels authorized under the National Defense Authorization Act of 2017, ensuring military readiness and providing increased support for our troops.

"We must do everything we can to ensure that our servicemen and women have the tools and training they need to defend our country," said Guthrie. "This year's Department of Defense funding bill ensures that our troops will have the equipment and technology they need by reversing the drawdown and cuts to military readiness that occurred under President Obama. It gives our troops a well-deserved pay raise and improves their medical care. Further, this bill provides a substantial increase in funding for Israeli defense programs to help protect our greatest friend and ally in the Middle East. I was proud to vote for this bill and encourage the Senate to pass it as well."

The Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2017 provides a total of $583.7 billion in discretionary funding for the military.
