Statement

Date: May 30, 2017
Location: Shelby Township, MI

Yesterday, Congressman Paul Mitchell (MI-10) presented medals to Robert Mauro, the son of deceased WWII Veteran Nicholas Mauro at the Romeo VFW Memorial Day Ceremony.

Congressman Mitchell presented Mauro with the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal & Bronze Star Attachment, WWII Victory Button, and the Army Lapel Button.

"I am honored to present Mr. Mauro with these medals earned by his father's acts of heroism in WWII," said Congressman Mitchell. "On Memorial Day and every day, we must remember that our freedom comes at a great cost. Its burden is carried by those heroes in uniform and their families who have suffered the pain of the loss of a serviceman or woman. These medals are a small token of our gratitude for Nicholas Mauro, and his family who answered the call to protect our freedom."
Congressman Mitchell is pleased to assist veterans who lost or were never awarded their medals. Veterans and their families wishing to secure medals should contact Congressman Mitchell's office in Shelby Township (586-997-5010).
