This week, Congressman Adam Kinzinger (IL-16), Congressman Rodney Davis (IL-13), Congressman John Shimkus (IL-15), Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17), Congressman Mike Bost (IL-12) and Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-18) reintroduced legislation that expands the National Heritage Area (NHA) of Abraham Lincoln's life and career.

The bipartisan "Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area Amendment Act' adds Livingston County, the City of Freeport in Stephenson County, and the City of Jonesboro in Union County to the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area, in order to include all of the sites of Lincoln's legal career and the Lincoln-Douglas Debates.
As a proud native of Illinois, the home of Abraham Lincoln, Rep. Kinzinger released the following statement on the need to reintroduce this legislation:

"Abraham Lincoln is one of our nation's most revered leaders. We believe his life and legacy needs to be preserved -- for the education of future generations, the visiting tourist and its historical importance. President Lincoln understood and upheld our values of freedom, opportunity, and equality. Today, we look at Abraham Lincoln as a role model and proudly reintroduce the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Amendment Act. It is our honor to strengthen the mission to preserve his legacy in Illinois."
