Today, Senator Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after voting as a member of the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation in favor of the nominations of Secretary Elaine Chao as Secretary of Transportation and Wilbur Ross as Secretary of Commerce. Secretary Chao and Mr. Ross' nominations will move to the Senate floor for a final vote.

"During Secretary Chao's confirmation hearing, I was pleased she acknowledged the importance of supporting federal programs such as the successful TIGER grant and TIFIA loan programs, which have helped strengthen transportation infrastructure in New Hampshire and across the nation," Senator Hassan said. "Secretary Chao has the experience and qualifications to lead the Department of Transportation, and I look forward to working with her on critical priorities for New Hampshire, including bringing commuter rail to the Granite State, which we know would help attract more young people to the state and support job-creating businesses."

"Throughout the confirmation process, I have appreciated Mr. Ross' comments on the importance of supporting small businesses and hearing more about his plans to support new and young businesses that are helping drive New Hampshire's 21st century innovation economy," Senator Hassan said. "I look forward to working with Mr. Ross and the Department of Commerce to support innovative, job-creating businesses, to build an even stronger workforce and to strengthen our economy in New Hampshire and throughout America."
