Congressman Hank Johnson's Statement on General Flynn's Resignation

Statement

Date: Feb. 14, 2017
Location: Washington, D.C.

Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04) released the following statement in the wake of the sudden resignation of National Security Adviser Michael Flynn:

"Michael Flynn's resignation in the wake of stunning allegations calls on us to raise more questions and demand more answers from the current administration. We need to determine what the president knew and when he knew it. Flynn's overnight resignation is no substitute for answers. The American people deserve to know the full extent of Russia's financial, personal and political grip on President Trump. "As constituents call my office, I echo their statements: I join my colleagues in demanding that Speaker Paul Ryan and the Republican majority in Congress authorize a bipartisan, independent, outside commission to fully investigate Russia's influence within the Trump Administration and our electoral process. His history of interaction with Russian officials and political operatives has been well-documented. Flynn has been walking on thin ice for several days after reports surfaced that he misled Vice President Mike Pence about whether he discussed sanctions with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Unfortunately, this conduct may in fact only be the tip of the iceberg."
