Location: Washington, DC

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on reports that President Trump asked former FBI Director Comey to end the FBI's investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn:

"If reports are true that President Trump asked then-Director Comey to end the FBI's investigation of former National Security Advisor Flynn, it makes the need for an independent investigation all the more important.

"Democrats and Republicans must come together and seek the answers to these questions. It is incumbent upon us to set politics aside and put our system of laws and justice above all else. In future years, Americans will look back on how each of us reacted in these days of uncertainty, and I hope every Member of Congress will be judged worthy by posterity for putting country, the Constitution, and the rule of law first."
