Blunt Introduces Measures to Honor Ill & Injured Service Members & Veterans

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) today introduced two measures honoring our nation's military service members and veterans who were injured or became ill while serving, and their family members. The first measure designates May 1, 2017 as Silver Star Service Banner Day this year, and the second would make it a national day marked on May 1 every year.

"Our military men and women put themselves in harm's way to secure our freedom, and many of them carry wounds or illness from their service for the rest of their lives," Blunt said. "We would not have the blessings of freedom that we do without the sacrifices they have made. I hope on this May 1, and every May 1 going forward, all Americans will pause, reflect, and reaffirm our gratitude for our Silver Star service members, veterans, and family members."

Silver Star Families of America is a national non-profit program headquartered in Clever, Mo.

The organization honors and assists members of the Armed Forces and their families from every branch of service and from all wars. SSFOA provides assistance to veterans who have suffered illness or injury in the course of their service, and distributes Silver Star Flags and care packages to wounded veterans and their families.
