Blunt Responds to President Trump's Targeted Air Strikes in Syria

Statement

Date: April 7, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) released the following statement today on the U.S. military air strikes targeting the Syrian airfield that was used to store chemical weapons and launch the aircraft that killed and injured hundreds of men, women, and children on Tuesday:

"President Trump's swift, targeted, proportional strike in Syria is the right response to Bashar al-Assad's horrific chemical attack earlier this week. I'm grateful to the military men and women who bravely executed the strike as quickly and effectively as they did. For six years, Assad has carried out these atrocities with impunity. That changed yesterday. I believe the president's action sends a strong signal to Russia, a strong signal to Iran, and a strong signal to North Korea. And, I hope his action instills confidence in our partners, friends, and allies throughout the Middle East who have lost faith in our ability to lead globally and respond decisively."
