Enzi: Senate Passes Frannie Land Bill

The town of Frannie, Wyo., is one step closer to becoming the proud owner of land that now includes a town park and public parking, according to U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo.

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee unanimously passed Enzi's bill, S. 101, earlier this year and Tuesday night the Senate as a whole unanimously passed the bill which would require the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), to transfer ownership of about an acre of land to the town.

The town has managed the land for more than 14 years under a special use permit from the BOR that allows it to build and maintain a Wyoming Centennial Garden on one section of the property. The other section holds the Frannie American Legion Hall, a building that was deeded to the city by the members of the Frannie American Legion.

While the land is currently owned by the BOR, all BOR land not used for reclamation projects are administered and disposed of by the BLM.

"It makes sense to allow Frannie citizens, who have utilized the land for so long, to be able to acquire the area and manage it for the future. The people on the ground know better than anyone else how to manage the land," said Enzi.

Enzi hopes the bill will pass the House with little if any opposition.
