Cunningham Announces Passage of Energy Conference Report

Washington, Jul 28 - WASHINGTON- Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham (R-San Diego) today announced that the Conference Report on the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (H.R. 6) passed in the House of Representatives with broad bipartisan support, 275-156. H.R. 6 addresses issues such as rising gasoline prices, promoting clean and renewable fuels, dependency on foreign oil, and preventing future blackouts.

If signed into law, H.R. 6 will scale back demand for oil by increasing funding for the Department of Energy to implement the "Clean Cities" program, providing grants to state and local governments to acquire alternative fueled vehicles. H.R. 6 stimulates innovation by launching a state of the art program to get hydrogen-fueled vehicles on the road by 2020. The legislation also authorizes responsible domestic energy exploration and development, diversifying our oil supply and reducing dependency on foreign oil. H.R. 6 also addresses electricity blackouts by providing enforceable mandatory reliability standards for the industry and incentives for efficient retrofit and new homes, commercial buildings, and high technology air conditioners, furnaces, and water heaters.

"Reducing our dependency on foreign oil and pushing the envelope for new and innovative ideas for alternative fuel are two issues that had to be addressed," said Congressman Cunningham. "This legislation offers common-sense solutions that will improve national security and encourage energy conservation and efficiency. I am pleased my colleagues from both sides of the aisle joined me in supporting the Energy Bill," Cunningham added.
