Congressman Rohrabacher Secures $20 Million For Huntington Beach Water Infrastructure

Today Representative Rohrabacher was pleased to announce the inclusion of $20 million for a Huntington Beach water infrastructure project in the Water Resources Development Act which passed the House of Representatives on July 14, 2005.

"The City of Huntington Beach has been functioning on outdated water infrastructure for decades," said Rep. Rohrabacher. "These funds will enable the city to improve and replace water systems that are not up to code for flood protection as well as deal with urban runoff which threatens water quality."

Huntington Beach's storm water infrastructure, including storm water pump stations, piping channels, and associated drainage features are over 40 years old and are in need of upgrade or replacement with new systems in order to meet current FEMA and Orange County guidelines for 100-year flood protection. In addition, the water quality of local receiving water bodies has been and continues to be negatively impacted by pollutants due to urban runoff. The WRDA construction authorization will help mitigate this problem.

"Water projects and transportation are a priority for the long-term economic viability of the state and the region," stated Rep. Rohrabacher.
