ENGEL STATEMENT ON PATRIOT ACT
July 22, 2005
Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY) released the following statement:
"After 9/11, I voted for the Patriot Act, but said that it needed to be reviewed in the future. Because the Republicans not only left in sections where the bill over-reaches into our civil liberties, but went further than the first Patriot Act by making these questionable provisions permanent, I voted against it. We must not limit our rights in the name of protecting them."
