King Meets with President's Nominee for Agriculture Secretary

Statement

Date: Feb. 16, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

This afternoon, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) met with former Governor Sonny Perdue, President Trump's nominee to serve as Secretary of Agriculture. Senator King released the following statement after the meeting:

"Governor Perdue and I had a substantive and constructive conversation this afternoon," Senator King said. "We focused primarily on the strength and diversity of Maine's agricultural base and discussed how -- whether it be increasing access to rural broadband, enhancing agricultural infrastructure for Maine farmers and processors, or supporting dairy farmers -- the upcoming Farm Bill and federal policy must remain flexible enough to support all types and sizes of agricultural production. I was impressed with Governor Perdue and look forward to following his confirmation hearing before the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee."
