House Passes Array of Innovation Initiative Bills

Statement

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 79, the Helping Angels Lead Our Startups (HALOS) Act, as well as other suspensions from the Innovation Initiative:

"Our goal in government should never be to stop the next Uber, Apple, or Amazon from coming into existence. We should enable it. One of the goals of the Innovation Initiative is to tear down government-made barriers to success and embrace the ideas that will keep America as the global leader in innovation. The HALOS Act will directly help startups who face the highest risks, but also have the greatest potential. By removing arbitrary rules and allowing angel investors to play a bigger role in funding startups, we give potentially transformative startups more opportunity to get the capital they need early on to stay afloat, grow, and perhaps one day change the world.

"The House also passed a series of other Innovation Initiative bills to increase access to broadband, improve our national security, modernize government technology, and expand STEM education for women. Government should always support innovation, not suppress it. America is strongest when we rely on the immense creative talents of our people."
