The Innovation Initiative Helps Students and Vets

Statement

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of three bills from the Innovation Initiative--H.R. 4352, the Faster Care for Veterans Act; H.R. 6394, the Improving Broadband Access for Veterans Act; and H.Res. 939, expressing the sense of the House that all students should have access to digital tools necessary for education:

"The Innovation Initiative continues to bring new ideas to government and to foster innovation and growth in the private sector. Today's bills focus on education and our veterans. First, as our economy changes, students need to be prepared for the jobs of the 21st century. The House knows that our students need to have the best tools in our digital world so they have the training and abilities to successfully compete for jobs in the modern economy. We also passed legislation to promote internet access for veterans--particularly those in rural areas and those who are struggling to get by.

"In particular, I'd like to highlight he Faster Care for Veterans Act, which will start a pilot program at several VA medical facilities to adopt an internet-based appointment system. By giving veterans the ability to make and confirm their appointments online, we can increase transparency and put an end to the wait-time scandal that consigned so many veterans to unconscionable delays for medical care. Thanks to Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) and Congressman Seth Moulton (MA-06), we passed a bipartisan bill that is a victory for good government, but most of all a victory for our veterans."
