Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.), a member of the House Agriculture Committee, released the following statement on the announcement that former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue will be nominated to serve as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

"Growing up on the Central Coast, I know that our $5 billion agriculture industry is the economic engine for the region. As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I look forward to working with Governor Perdue on important issues like specialty crops, organics, agriculture research, nutrition, animal and plant health, and technology to improve sustainability.
