Latta Statement on the Signing of the 21st Century Cures Act Into Law

Statement

Date: Dec. 13, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) released the following the statement after the 21st Century Cures Act was signed into law this afternoon.

"The signing of the landmark 21st Century Cures Act into law is a monumental event that will positively change the way our country discovers, develops, and delivers cures and treatments for patients. With only 500 approved cures and treatments for nearly 10,000 diseases, medical innovation is critical to providing life-saving and life-improving medicine for patients. The bipartisan 21st Century Cures Act bolsters research, streamlines the approval process at the FDA, and provides more clarity for innovators. These measures will aid the efforts of leading medical research institutions in Ohio -- and around the nation -- that are working to find cures for the most harmful diseases."

The 21st Century Cures Act passed the U.S. House of Representatives on November 30 by a vote of 392-26 and was approved by the Senate a week later, 94-5.
