McKinley Applauds Agreement on Coal Ash Legislation

Statement

Date: Dec. 5, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman McKinley released the following statement after an agreement was reached between the House and Senate Conference Committees to address the disposal of coal ash in the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA). This legislation authorizes states to implement their own coal ash permit program, which would create certainty for utilities and users of coal ash.

"This is an issue that we've worked on since coming to Congress six years ago and I am pleased that we are finally able to reach an agreement between the House and Senate. This legislation will help protect 316,000 jobs while empowering individual states to ensure the proper management and disposal of coal ash," said McKinley.

"After working with stakeholders and both parties to find common ground, we've reached a solution that creates certainty for everyone. This is legislation that both parties should support and I'm looking forward to seeing it passed through Congress and signed into law," McKinley said.
