Reid: November Jobs Report Demonstrates Remarkable Economic Recovery Under President Obama

Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced the economy added 178,000 jobs in November. The unemployment rate also fell to 4.6 percent -- the lowest unemployment rate since August 2007, before the start of the financial crisis. Since 2010, the economy has added more than 15.6 million private-sector jobs.

"Today's employment report demonstrates the remarkable job growth and economic recovery we have seen under President Obama. Eight years ago, when President Obama took office, our economy was in freefall and the country was hemorrhaging jobs. Now, as he prepares to leave office, the economy has experienced the longest streak of private-sector job growth on record and the lowest unemployment rate in nearly a decade. This is a legacy that all Americans should be proud of.

"Thanks to President Obama's leadership and Democratic policies in Congress, our country has clawed back from one of the worst economic crises in modern history. From the president's first day in office, Democrats committed to an agenda focused on middle class priorities. By working hard to strengthen the economy for everyone, including passing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, we saved or created nine million jobs. Despite unprecedented obstruction and gridlock from Republicans, the president will leave office knowing that our hard work has paid off for millions of Americans.

"While President Obama and I will soon be leaving office, I am comforted to know Democrats will continue fighting to build on the monumental progress we have seen over the last eight years. Republicans -- who will soon be in control of the presidency and both houses of Congress -- should follow President Obama's lead by focusing on the middle class and standing up to far-right interests. If they are willing to join with Democrats on those efforts then I have no doubt that we will continue to build on this historic economic progress."
