Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) today announced $500,000 has been awarded to the Research Foundation at Stony Brook University to support the Long Island Bioscience Hub (LIBH) program.

LIBH is a collaboration program between Stony Brook University, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, and receives support from the National Institutes of Health Research Evaluation and Commercialization Hub (REACH) initiative, Research Foundation for SUNY, and Empire State Development. LIBH helps advance the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) mission as the nation's medical research agency, by promoting the development of medical research tools.

Congressman Zeldin said, "This award will help advance LIBH, allowing this critical program to continue to expand, and improving the overall quality of health of Long Islanders. Improving our nation's healthcare system must always be a top priority, and I am proud to be working with Stony Brook on this effort."

"In New York State and specifically Long Island, there is rich potential in the biosciences, as represented by the leading businesses and academic institutions in the region," said Clinton T. Rubin, PhD, Director, Center for Biotechnology, SUNY Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Stony Brook University. "We are thrilled that the Department of Commerce supports our efforts, and we believe this award will accelerate and augment the translation of great discoveries into the marketplace. These early stage technologies will also fuel the pipeline of bio-based diagnostics, therapeutics and medical devices."

The funding was secured through the Economic Development Administration.
