Rep. Titus Announces $3.4 Million School Improvement Grant For Nevada

Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada's First Congressional District announced that the U.S. Department of Education awarded the state a $3,447,309 School Improvement Grant (SIG) to help rapidly increase student achievement in underperforming public schools.

The Nevada Department of Education will distribute the Title 1 funds to qualifying districts to help increase the total percentage of students proficient in math and reading and improve graduation rates. The State will use the funds to hire new personnel and provide more tools to teachers throughout Nevada.

"These critical funds have a track record of galvanizing under-performing schools across the nation," Rep. Titus said. "They will give teachers and administrators more resources to improve student achievement and prepare our future leaders for life after K-12."

The grant is part of a $427,500 million effort by the U.S. Department of Education to improve student success. Rep. Titus voted in support of the funds in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2016.
