As a New York State Senator, reduced middle income tax rates to the lowest level in 60 years, co-sponsored the nation's strongest property tax cap, and led the successful effort to repeal the MTA Payroll Tax for 80 percent of employers.

In Congress, helped lead the effort to secure 20 tax relief provisions for Long Island businesses and families in a bill that became law.

Voted against Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) and opposes the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) in order to improve the negotiation of trade agreements to better fight for American companies, and most importantly, the American worker. Trade is an important engine of the American economy and can be strengthened.

Member of the Economic Opportunity Subcommittee of the House Veterans Affairs Committee.

Strong supporter of the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act (H.R. 427), which has passed the House to stop executive overreach, including burdensome and unnecessary bureaucratic red tape.

Advocate of a much needed simplification of our tax code to allow more Americans to pay their taxes on a form as simple as a postcard.

Cosponsors the Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution (H.J. Res. 55) to help get our nation's fiscal house in order.
