Sessions Statement on the Continuing Resolution

Statement

Date: Sept. 28, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions, Chairman of the House Committee on Rules released the following statement after voting for passage of a short term spending bill to fund the federal government through December 9, 2016:

"After a week of Senate Democrats putting political games above our duty to fund the government, Republicans led the charge to responsibly finish our work and pass a short term funding solution. We have a responsibility as lawmakers to efficiently and effectively fund the government to ensure our military gets paid, our homeland is protected, and the day to day operations of our country stay on track. While this short term spending bill does not include a number of issues that I believe need to be addressed, I am pleased that we responsibly allocated funds to address the growing Zika crisis. This disease has made its way onto our shores and is spreading throughout Florida so it is critical that we work together to fund research efforts and find a vaccine that will effectively combat this disease.

"Even though I believe we need to stop using these stop gap funding measures to temporarily deal with our financial issues, I remain committed to using the period between now and December 9th to work with my colleagues to ensure that conservative, pro-growth policies are included in the end of the year funding bill."
