Collins Statement on Reopening of FBI's Investigation on Clinton

Statement

Date: Oct. 28, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Doug Collins, member of the Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement regarding the FBI's decision to reopen the investigation of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton:

"Today, FBI Director James Comey announced that the agency is renewing its investigations of Secretary Clinton. I have maintained consistently that Mrs. Clinton's actions during her tenure as Secretary of State were reckless and put our national security at risk. She placed her own convenience above the safety of our citizens, and the results were significant security breaches.

"As government officials, we are often charged with stewarding sensitive information as we work on behalf of the American people. Mrs. Clinton disregarded established procedure in handling classified information.

"I believe the FBI mishandled its initial investigation of her activities and is right to return to the evidence. I join my colleagues on the Judiciary Committee in encouraging the FBI to pursue a detailed and even-handed examination of the facts in this case."
