Ward 6 Elected Officials to Testify at Norton Roundtable on Potential Locations of a Halfway House in D.C., Tomorrow

Press Release

Date: Oct. 18, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Councilmember Charles Allen (Ward 6) and three Ward 6 Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners will testify before federal officials at a roundtable hosted by Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) on potential locations for a Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP)-contracted halfway house for men in the District of Columbia tomorrow, Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at 6:00 p.m., at 1100 4th St. SW, Room E200. Many of the proposed sites would be located in Ward 6. The current halfway house in D.C., Hope Village, located in Ward 8 (2844 Langston PL SE), has 250 residents, can hold up to 300, and is apparently eligible for selection. The ANC Commissioners testifying will be Stephanie Zimny (6A), who will testify about a proposed location at 810 14th St. NE, and Kristen Oldenburg (6B) and Meredith Fascett (6D07), who will testify about a proposed location at 810 Potomac Ave. SE. Sitting on the roundtable panel with Norton will be Patti Butterfield, Senior Deputy Assistant Director for Reentry Services Division, BOP, and Nancy Ware, Director, Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency (CSOSA). The roundtable will recess in plenty of time for participants and residents to watch the third presidential debate, which is scheduled to begin at 9:00 p.m.

"We look forward to welcoming our returning citizens back to the District so that they are seamlessly reintegrated into our communities," Norton said. "The focus of our roundtable is to ensure that the halfway house selection process in the District is open and transparent and that the location is appropriate for returning citizens and communities alike."
