Kline, Walberg Respond to New DOL and EEOC Rules

Statement

Date: Sept. 29, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. John Kline (R-MN), chairman of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, and Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI), chairman of the Subcommittee on Workforce Protections, released the following joint statement after the Department of Labor finalized new rules affecting federal contractors and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) issued new requirements regarding federal collection of employee pay data:

We are now more than seven years into the slowest economic recovery in generations, and the administration still doesn't get it. It's only fitting that on the same day reports show our economy continues to drag at an anemic pace, the administration is bombarding employers with more partisan rules and regulations. From the Department of Labor to the EEOC, working families and small businesses are being hit in all directions. The American people are looking for opportunity and prosperity, and these new rules will make it harder to find both.

The administration is not only implementing an expansive overtime rule that will hurt those who need help the most. They have now come up with a counterproductive and ineffective regulatory scheme that will undermine enforcement of critical workplace protections, as well as a rule to make it harder for small businesses to compete for federal contracts. While the administration continues to double down on its failed top-down agenda, we will continue to promote a better way for America's hardworking men and women.
