Rep. Roybal-Allard Statement on Supreme Court's Decision Not to Rehear U.S. v. Texas

Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) issued the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court's announcement today that it would not rehear U.S. v. Texas:

"Today's Supreme Court announcement leaves millions of immigrants in danger of being deported and torn away from their families. President Obama acted entirely within his rights in 2014 when he announced his executive actions to expand DACA and initiate DAPA. In June, when the Supreme Court deadlocked 4-4 and prevented these actions from proceeding, that tie should have been a sign that the Senate needed to fill the court's empty seat so the case could be reheard and the tie could be broken. Sadly, Senate Republicans have kept blocking President Obama's Supreme Court nominee, Judge Merrick Garland. Today's terrible news reminds us why we need nine justices on the Supreme Court as soon as possible, but it also reminds us why Congress must come together to pass comprehensive immigration reform that will fix our broken immigration system, so that we can finally help millions of immigrant families to enrich our country with their strong work ethic, values, and love of America."
