Mikulski, Cardin, Sarbanes Announce $400,000 Grant to Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis

Senators Barbara Mikilski and Ben Cardin, along with Congressman John Sarbanes (all D-Md.), today announced a $400,000 grant from the National Park Service's (NPS) Land and Water Conservation Fund to Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis. Grant funding will allow the park to build a new playground and seating area, as well as improve landscaping and signage throughout the park.
"The Chesapeake Bay is an integral part of who we are as Marylanders -- our heritage, our economy and our culture," Senator Mikulski said. "These funds in the federal checkbook will help revitalize and refresh Sandy Point State Park, providing an engaging environment for Marylanders, visitors and generations to come."
"Sandy Point State Park is a close-to-home haven that brings families together and allows children to bond with Maryland's natural wonders, especially our treasured Chesapeake Bay," said Senator Cardin, a senior member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. "This federal grant will improve their experiences -- and the park itself -- for many years to come. I am proud of how the National Park Service's Land and Water Conservation Fund continues to find creative ways to strengthen federal investments in our communities, recreational opportunities and ability for people to connect with the outdoors."

"If we want to ensure that our children and grandchildren can enjoy the great outdoors and become better connected with the natural world, then it's critical for us to continue making investments in our national and state parks -- like the investment that NPS is making in Sandy Point."
The Land and Water Conservation Fund is a partnership program that provides matching funds to states and local communities for acquisition, development and conservation of parks and open space.
