WHNT - Walk to Defeat ALS Takes Over Huntsville and Raises Over $146,000

It was another successful Walk to Defeat ALS in Huntsville Saturday. Held at Hudson Alpha, they had over 48 teams walking and raising money. North Alabama Congressman Mo Brooks said his favorite part of the Walk to Defeat ALS is the American spirit that's so evident.

"You're seeing American citizens volunteer their time, volunteering their resources, this event raised over $146,000 dollars for Alabamians who are suffering from ALS," he said.

Over $27,000 of that amount was raised by Rick Isaacs and his team, established in 2013 when he was diagnosed with ALS.

"My favorite part of the walk is just leading the team out there," said Isaacs.

As the team who raised the most money, Isaacs served as the walk's Grand Marshall, and Team Rick was right behind all the way. Isaacs said the money raised primarily goes towards helping Alabamians offset the high cost associated with ALS.

"Things like wheelchairs, computers that help you with eye gaze controls, all manner of equipment to help you with the disease," he said.

This walk is important to Isaacs. It marks yet another year Team Rick has conquered in the fight against ALS.

"3 years now, so that's good news because I'm still alive to say that, and I hope to be here many more,"he said.

We hope so too Rick.

At the conclusion of the walk, Rick Isaacs and others did a special butterfly release to honor those who they have lost in the battle against ALS.
