Border Security

Statement

Date: Oct. 11, 2016

In 2015, Kate Steinle, a young woman taking an evening walk with her father, was shot to death in San Francisco by a man who was not in this country legally. He was a seven-time convicted felon and had been deported five times. The Kate Steinle case is not an isolated incident. In January 2015, the Washington Times reported that one thousand of the 36,000 criminal illegal immigrants released by ICE in 2013 have gone on to commit other crimes, including child sex abuse, hit-and-run and child cruelty.
Thanks to our current representatives in Congress, illegal immigration is still a big problem. Our Representatives call each other names and endlessly argue about so-called comprehensive long-term solutions. Meanwhile, drug dealers, human traffickers and gang members--many of them convicted felons--are crossing our border and committing crimes in America.

I think we can all agree that violent criminals shouldn't be roaming our streets. So why haven't we passed a law that stops the release of these violent criminals? Because our Representatives in Congress haven't made it a priority. I will.

I am Robert J. Sutherland and I am running for US Congress in the 1st Congressional District. Go to sutherlandusa.com.
