Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislature DuWayne Gregory today stated he stands with Khizr and Ghazala Khan against Presidential Republican nominee Donald J. Trump and asks Peter King to denounce the nominee's remarks.

"As an Army veteran, I'm appalled by Donald Trump's remarks about Ghazala Khan," Gregory said. "It's an insult to the many military members who have lost their lives and their grieving families. My opponent continuing to stand next to Donald Trump shows once again that he is putting politics before service members. Even Republicans like Senator John McCain are denouncing Trump's comments but Peter King hasn't. I ask that Peter King apologize to Khriz and Ghazala Khan and denounce Trump's comments."

Donald Trump said "She had nothing to say. She probably, maybe she wasn't allowed to have anything to say." Mr. and Mrs. Ghazala's son, U.S Army Capt. Humayu Khan, was killed by a car bomb in 2004 in Iraq.

Senator John McCain said "In recent days, Donald Trump disparaged a fallen soldier's parents. He has suggested that the likes of their son should not be allowed in the United States -- to say nothing of entering its service. I cannot emphasize enough how deeply I disagree with Mr. Trump's statement. I hope Americans understand that the remarks do not represent the views of our Republican Party, its officers, or candidates."
