Congressman John Moolenaar, R-Midland, has been recognized for his support of housing by the National Association of Home Builders. The first-term congressman received the Defender of Housing Award, which recognizes courageous federal legislators who have demonstrated strong support for housing and NAHB positions on key issues facing the industry.

Local Home Builder Associations are encouraged to consider the contributions their legislators have made in support of home building, remodeling, development, and submit an application on their behalf.

"Thank you to the Home Builders for this recognition. I have been fighting for policies that make it easier for hardworking families in mid and northern Michigan to pursue the American Dream, including a simpler, fairer tax code and the elimination of regulations that drive up the cost of homeownership," stated Moolenaar in an email to the Daily News.

The application submitted on behalf of Moolenaar was in recognition of his visionary call to bring to the forefront of industry importance the promotion of Career Technical Education in residential construction which in turn gave the Home Builders Association of Michigan greater allegiance to successfully reform CTE to count as math credits required for graduation.

Two other congressman from Michigan also earned the award: Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph; and Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Tipton.

NAHB will be announced all 136 Defender of Housing Award recipients in a national press release in the political newspaper, Politico, on Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Congressman John Moolenaar was presented with the National Association of Home Builders Defender of Housing Award recently at his office.

Joining Moolenaar were: Louis Pomaville, Jodi Sasse, Moolenaar, Matt Bader, Bruce Frost, Connie Frost and Jim Reichard, representing Bay, Central and Midland Home Builders Associations.
