Pompeo Says U.S. Government Helping to Build Iranian Air Force

Statement

Date: Sept. 21, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-KS) commented today on the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control's decision to give two commercial aircraft manufacturers licenses that allow them to supply airliners to Iran Air.

"In his latest move to appease Iran, President Obama today announced he is essentially helping build the Iranian Air Force. This is dangerous, reckless and wholly unnecessary. Going beyond the terms of the nuclear deal, this administration is now simply doing favors for the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism. Questions as to how these planes will be used--whether for weapons transport or jihadi training--remain unanswered, compounding existing suspicions about Iran Air's ties to terrorism. It is not in the interest of any company to be doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran."

Pompeo discussed the risks of doing business with Iranian businesses in a recent op-ed published on ForeignPolicy.com which you can read here.
