On Combating Gun Violence: Carlos Curbelo Acts, Joe Garcia Just Talks

Press Release

Date: Sept. 22, 2016

This week, South Florida has been rocked by multiple shootings involving children. When it comes to combating gun violence, in District 26 there is a stark contrast between candidates Carlos Curbelo and Joe Garcia: Curbelo has taken action to combat gun violence in our community, while Garcia, both in Congress and as a candidate, has been all talk.
In Congress, Carlos Curbelo has led efforts to combat gun violence in our community.

Tuesday night, a representative from Carlos Curbelo's office participated in a community townhall to discuss the recent shootings in South Florida and Curbelo's proposed solutions to make our communities safer.

Curbelo is the original sponsor of the bipartisan "No Fly-No Buy" legislation in the House of Representatives.

Curbelo has been vocal in calling on the House Republican Leadership to bring the issue before the Floor for a vote.

Curbelo's efforts were recently praised by the parents of one of the Pulse shooting victims and a local anti-violence advocate.

Curbelo called on Attorney General Loretta Lynch to make additional funds available for Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) and Emergency Federal Law Enforcement Assistance (EFLEA) programs to help South Florida communities plagued with gun violence.

Today, and in the past, Joe Garcia has been all talk, choosing only to take a back seat and leave the fight to others.

In Congress, Garcia did not introduce a single bill intended to combat gun violence.

At Tuesday night's townhall, Garcia sat in the audience and tweeted calls for action, but didn't participate or propose a single solution himself.
