Sunshine State News - Carlos Curbelo Backs Uber, Lyft in Miami-Dade

From his perch on the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, U.S. Rep. Carlos Curbelo, R-Fla., said he backed ride-share services like Uber in Miami-Dade County.

"I am proud to support ride-sharing services in Miami-Dade County," Curbelo said on Wednesday. "Services, such as Uber and Lyft offer consumers the ability to choose between traditional taxi services and alternative forms of transportation. However, it is of the utmost importance that this industry ensures that every driver and vehicle pass thorough background checks, inspections, and necessary insurance mandates for each trip in order to keep passengers safe.

"Ride-sharing services are the pathway to a future of less traffic congestion and cleaner air quality, all while exemplifying the free-market system," Curbelo added. "This successful industry should be developed and expanded in a safe manner that protects consumers, not discouraged and over-overregulated. I am proud to support the continued growth of ride-sharing services in Miami-Dade County and I look forward to its expansion in South Florida."
