A Statement from Congressman Jindal Following the House Passage of the Water Resources Development Act
Congressman Bobby Jindal (LA-01) issued the following statement on the passage of H.R. 2864, the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA), which includes the approval of a $1.2 billion Army Corps of Engineer's project for the protection, conservation, and restoration of wetlands, critical habitat, and infrastructure in coastal Louisiana.
"I commend my colleagues in the House for their votes in favor of WRDA. The bill itself, and the widespread support that it garnered in the House, represents a recognition by the rest of the nation of the importance of protecting Louisiana's coast. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to join with the House in a concerted effort to protect Louisiana's coast and quickly send this bill to the President for his signature."
"This is not a local or a state issue; it is an issue of grave national importance and today's vote is an important first step in solving it. I hope that the enthusiasm shown by Congress in protecting Louisiana on this bill will carry over to the final version of the national energy bill being debated now. The House version of the national energy bill contains a provision I added, which would give Louisiana $1 billion a year for coastal restoration. I hope that today's vote is a stepping stone towards Louisiana finally receiving the funding we deserve to protect out land, our economy and homes."
