Pompeo Readies Legislation on Iran Ransom Payment with Senator Rubio

Location: Wichita, KS
Issues: Foreign Affairs

Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-KS) will introduce legislation next week with Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL). The legislation reiterates the policy of the United States not to pay ransom, requires the President to secure the return of U.S. money back from Iran, and bans any future payments to state sponsors of terrorism.

Congressman Pompeo commented about the upcoming legislation: "Congress is taking a clear stand--demanding Iran return the more than $1 billion the Obama Administration wrongly gave them and putting a stop to any and all future money this administration, or any administration might want to give to state sponsors of terrorism like Iran. The American people know this is an unacceptable use of their taxpayer dollars and we wholeheartedly agree. It is unprecedented and dangerous for President Obama to be doling out millions to the Islamic Republic of Iran--in the dead of night, under wraps, and in cash. Kansans expect and demand better from their government."

Pompeo serves on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and the Select Committee on Benghazi. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, an Army veteran, and ran two small businesses before joining Congress in 2011.
